Wish

"I Wish, I Wish" is one of the most popular Magic Words games both in school and at home.

Select pairs of Magic Words Flashcards that are in the current book your child is learning to read. This ensures that your child's word recognition and reading fluency is being reinforced, revised and rapidly improved while having fun.

Players - 2 or more

Flashcards - 12 or more pairs depending on the number of players and skill level.

Start by dealing 3-5 flashcards (depending on age and reading skill), face-down, to each player.

Each player then picks up their cards to hold in their hand, without revealing their Magic Words to the other players.

The remaining cards are placed face-down in the middle of the players to form a stock pile simply called the "Wish" pile.

Play begins with one player saying to the group:

"I wish, I wish       *      was here (*name a card in their hand)

"I wish, I wish       *      would appear (*name the same card)"

If another player has the named card it must be handed over to the requesting player, to form a pair. If a pair is formed, the player puts the pair down face-up on the table in front of them. Play continues to the next player on the left.

If no player can supply the named card, the requesting player can make a "Wish" by taking the top card from the "Wish" pile and putting it in their hand. Play continues to the next player on the left.

If the flashcard from the top of the "Wish" pile results in a pair being made, the pair isbe placed face-up on the table in front of the player. Play then continues to the next player on the left.

If a player has paired all the cards in their hand and there are still cards in the "Wish" pile, the player will select one flashcard from the "Wish" pile to remain a participant in the game.

Play continues until all the cards are paired.

The winner is the player with the most number of pairs at the end of the game.
